On Quadrupedal: Fundamentals & Beyond

Course Description

You might be familiar with the so-called “Animal Locomotion” - those crawling patterns often used in various disciplines for warm-ups, conditioning, and coordination development.

Yes, in part, that’s what this course covers, but we take it further. We explore how to bring more complexity and variability into these exploration. Don’t worry this doesn't mean you need any prior experience  - everything starts with the fundamentals, and we build from there. We made the course accessible for everyone!

Beyond that, we delve into how these movements can be used - not just for the sake of performing a set of patterns or to develop better strength, flexibility and coordination, but to integrate them into your free movement and improvisation. This is what we call Ground Movement, a practice rooted in our research and influenced by arts such as capoeira, breakdance, contemporary dance, and wrestling (the sport, not the show).

In short, when we talk about Quadrupedal Movement, we mean both Crawling and Ground Movement.

-

This course is designed to foster your creative thinking, enhance your ability to improvise and move freely in space, and help you become more confident and playful in your daily life. Along the way, you’ll develop a stronger, better-coordinated, more flexible, and agile body.

We confidently believe this is the most comprehensive course on the subject available today. With 21 chapters and 530 videos (see the curriculum at the end of the page), this program is designed to be a long-term journey of exploration and growth. No matter your current level or prior experience, this course will meet you where you are and support you every step of the way.

This course is part of the Large Online Teaching Projects created by Stefan Crainic & Josephine Haas. This series of courses are not available all the time on our website, however once purchased you get lifetime access to all course material and future updates.

The course can be acquired until the 1st of January.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who is this course for?

The general public and curious movers with and without experience, who wish to expand their knowledge and comprehension of the body as a complex interconnected organism and expand their capacity for creative thinking and explorative behaviour. Coaches and educators across all disciplines seeking to broaden their teaching repertoire and learn how to create environments that foster creativity, exploration, and autonomy for their students. Professional dancers, martial artists, and athletes aiming to enhance their practice with greater playfulness while progressing towards their goals. Rehabilitation practitioners who seek to deepen their understanding of the body through firsthand experience rather than solely through theoretical study. By gaining knowledge and direct experience of human movement beyond traditional learning environments, practitioners can broaden their understanding of applicable principles and develop personalized solutions for their patients.

  • Is the course suitable for all levels?

Yes, the course is open to all levels. While the trailer may seem intimidating, don’t worry, the patterns and tasks are explained in detail, and alternative variations are provided if things become more complex. The curriculum is designed to support everyone, regardless of their starting point.

  • BONUS I

On February 1, everyone who purchased the course will receive an email with details about a 2-hour Zoom class dedicated to Q&A. During this session, we will create a framework to help you get the most out of the course. I will also share practice strategies and maps that can be applied not only to this course but to other areas of your practice as well.

  • BONUS II

Everyone who purchases this course will have access to four additional live Zoom classes, which will be announced via email in the coming months. These sessions will begin with a Q&A and include discussions on motor development theories, movement principles, practical applications for coaching, and philosophical reflections on related topics.

  • What are the goals or benefits of the course?

This course aims to develop a stronger, more coordinated, flexible, and agile body while fostering creativity, confidence, and playfulness in movement. You’ll progress from fundamental crawling patterns to complex Ground Movement, integrating skills into improvisation and free movement.

  • What equipment or space is required?

Some chapters can be explored within the confines of your room, while others will require more space to move around, such as a gym, park, or studio. No equipment is needed, except for Chapter 19, where you will need: - 1 tennis ball - 1 martial arts belt

  • How is the course structured?

The course consists of 21 chapters, each focusing on one or two themes. You can follow the course in a structured, chapter-by-chapter approach (recommended for practitioners without any experience), or explore the chapters in a random order based on your preferences. A detailed PDF guide that you can access once you acquire the course provides recommendations for both beginners and experienced movers. Each pattern or task is thoroughly explained and broken down in the Explanation Videos, then demonstrated again without commentary in the Demonstration Videos. Chapter 21 is the only follow-along chapter, but it’s also available as a library for those who prefer independent practice.

  • Do we have lifetime access?

This course is part of the Large Online Teaching Projects created by Stefan Crainic & Josephine Haas. This series of courses are not available all the time on our website, however once purchased you get lifetime access to all course material and future updates.
