On Soft Acrobatics: Fundamentals & Beyond
Course Description
Have you ever looked at capoeira, breakdancing, or contemporary dancers performing all kinds of acrobatic movements and wondered where to even begin developing such skills?
We’ve got you covered. This course was created for both beginners and intermediate practitioners. In it, we cover all the fundamentals of soft acrobatics in a progressive, yet explorative and creative manner.
Our goal is to give you a strong foundation upon which you can continue building and evolving, beyond what this course has to offer. Through our teaching, we aim to show that acrobatics can be learned with a more playful approach, and that we can expand and get creative with them throughout the learning process so you can perform them in an adaptable, personal way. We want to bring individuality into the practice of acrobatics, not just teach you shapes or fixed sequences.
Throughout the course you'll develop:
- a solid foundation in soft acrobatics
- improved coordination, balance and body & spatial awareness
- tools for creative movement exploration
- the ability to adapt and personalise your acrobatic vocabulary
- a playful approach to learning that supports long-term growth
- confidence to integrate acrobatics into your existing movement practice or teaching
This course is for both those who are just starting their acrobatic journey and for practitioners already familiar with the field who want to expand and refine their acrobatic and pedagogical skills.
With more than 10 years of experience teaching and practicing acrobatics from kids to adults, and from beginners to professionals, we’re here to share with you many of the insights we’ve gathered throughout our journey. Our acrobatic practice is inspired by disciplines such as capoeira, breakdance, and contemporary dance - however, no prior experience in these fields is required. All you need is curiosity and the motivation to learn and explore.
With 15 chapters and over 450 videos (see the curriculum at the end of the page), this program is designed to be a long-term journey of exploration and growth. No matter your current level or prior experience, this course will meet you where you are and support you every step of the way.
This course is part of the Large Online Teaching Projects created by Stefan Crainic & Josephine Haas. This series of courses are not available all the time on our website, however once purchased you get lifetime access to all course material and future updates.
The course can be acquired until the 1st of May.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Who is this course for?
The general public and curious movers with and without experience, who wish to start, refine or expand their acrobatic practice and their capacity for creative thinking and explorative behaviour. Practicioners and teachers who want to learn how to better structure their practice and maximise learning, while keeping the practice alive, open and fun.
-
Is the course suitable for all levels?
Yes, the course is suitable for all levels. However it is mostly intended for beginner and intermediate level, rather than advanced. However, practitioners with an advanced level interested in refining their pedagogical skill can highly benefit from this course and the live zoom classes which accompany it in which we will delve deeper into the science of motor learning, skill development and applied creativity.
-
Is this course suitable for all levels?
Yes, the course is suitable for all levels. However, it is primarily intended for beginner and intermediate practitioners rather than advanced. That said, advanced-level practitioners interested in refining their pedagogical skills can still benefit greatly, especially as the course is accompanied from 4 live Zoom classes, where we’ll delve deeper into subjects such as motor learning, skill development, and applied creativity.
-
4 Live Zoom Classes
Everyone who purchases this course will have access to four additional live Zoom classes, which will be announced via email in the coming months. These sessions will begin with a Q&A and include discussions on motor learning, movement principles, practical applications for coaching, and philosophical reflections on related topics.
-
What equipment or space is required?
Some chapters can be explored within the confines of your room, while others will require more space to move around - such as a gym, park, or studio. No mats are required. No equipment is needed, except for a few exercises/tasks where you will need: • One long natural fiber string (like the type used in gardening), or any long string you have at hand. • One martial arts belt (although you can use the string in place of the belt if needed). • Jenga blocks (or any other small objects, such as rocks or crayons).
-
How is the course structured?
The course consists of 15 chapters, each focusing on one or two themes, and including a series of patterns and tasks to be explored. A detailed PDF guide that you can access once you acquire the course provides recommendations for both beginners and experienced movers. Each pattern or task is thoroughly explained and broken down in the Explanation Videos, then demonstrated again without commentary in the Demonstration Videos. Chapter 15 is the only chapter which has partially a follow-along structure.
